Toyota Unveils All-New RAV4

Plug-In Hybrid Power and GR Sport Excitement

CarsApp Staff - 21st May 2025

Toyota has taken the wraps off the sixth-generation RAV4, introducing a bold redesign, advanced hybrid powertrains, and the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant for the Australian market.

The headline feature of the new RAV4 is its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option, marking Toyota’s first PHEV offering in Australia. The system pairs a 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 22.7kWh lithium-ion battery, targeting an impressive 100km of electric-only driving range (WLTP). Toyota claims a 10% to 80% charging time 30 minutes using a 50kW DC fast charger. 0-100km/h is said to be dispatched in only 5.8 seconds. Toyota’s geofencing technology intelligently switches between EV and hybrid modes based on driving habits and route conditions, maximizing efficiency. Alongside the PHEV, the RAV4 continues with Toyota’s standard hybrid system in both 2WD and AWD configurations.

GR Sport: A Dynamic New Flagship

For the first time, the RAV4 will be available in a GR Sport variant, exclusively as a PHEV AWD model. Inspired by Toyota’s Gazoo Racing motorsport division, it blends performance enhancements with aggressive styling. The GR Sport features:

  • 20-inch black alloy wheels & aerodynamic body kit
  • 20mm wider wheel track for improved stability
  • Sport-tuned suspension & high-performance dampers
  • GR-branded interior with sports seats, suede/leather upholstery, and red accents

Sleeker Design, More Premium Interior

The new RAV4 features a bolder front grille, sharper LED lighting, and a more aerodynamic profile. Inside, the cabin is more refined with:

  • Toyota’s latest Arene OS – Faster, AI-powered infotainment with over-the-air updates
  • Enhanced voice control & Google-integrated navigation
  • Panoramic view monitor for easier parking
  • Improved materials & spacious layout
Next-Gen Safety & Driver Assistance

Toyota Safety Sense has been upgraded with:

  • Front Cross-Traffic Alert – Helps prevent intersection collisions
  • Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Approach Warning
  • Turn Signal-Linked Lane Change Assist (on highways)
  • Advanced Pre-Collision System with better cyclist detection
  • Remote Parking via Smartphone

Sean Hanley, Toyota Australia Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations, said: "Since its 1994 debut, the RAV4 has won over 500,000 Australian customers. This new generation builds on that legacy with our first plug-in hybrid and GR Sport model, offering even more choice and innovation."

The all-new Toyota RAV4 is expected to land in Australian showrooms in early 2026, with full specifications and pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.
