Volkswagen will introduce the all-new Tayron SUV to Australia in September 2025, slotting between the Tiguan and Touareg. Offered with both five- and seven-seat configurations, the Tayron targets families and buyers needing flexibility without stepping up to a full-size SUV.
At launch, the range opens with the 110TSI Life, featuring a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo engine, front-wheel drive, and a 7-speed DSG. Standard gear includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless phone integration, keyless access, 360-degree camera, and a comprehensive safety suite including adaptive cruise, lane assist, and junction braking.
For more power and traction, the 150TSI Life gets a 150kW 2.0-litre engine and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, but drops to five seats to prioritise luggage space (885 litres) and towing capacity (2,500kg). The seven-seat 150TSI Elegance adds comfort features like ventilated leather seats, heated rear seats, and upgraded lighting.
Topping the range, the 195TSI R-Line delivers 195kW and 400Nm with a 6.1-second 0–100km/h claim. It adds larger wheels, sporty styling, Harman Kardon audio, and HD Matrix headlights, while also offering a Black Style package for those wanting a darker aesthetic.
Volkswagen says the Tayron blends premium appointments with everyday usability, but pricing and final local spec are yet to be confirmed. Whether it strikes the right balance in Australia’s crowded SUV market will depend on where it lands on both fronts.
