BYD is set to expand its New Energy Vehicle lineup in Australia with two fresh offerings: the fully electric Atto 2 small SUV, due in Q4 this year, and the SEALION 8 plug-in hybrid seven-seater, arriving in Q1 2026.
The Atto 2 builds on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and Cell-to-Body architecture to deliver a torsion-rigid chassis 32 percent stiffer than its predecessor. Both Essential and Premium grades pair a 51.13 kWh Blade battery with a 130 kW/290 Nm permanent-magnet motor driving the front wheels via an integrated 8-in-1 powertrain.
. Styling is by Wolfgang Egger’s (formerly of Alfa Romeo, Audi and Lamborghini) in-house team, featuring LED headlamps, flush handles, a floating roof with panoramic glass and a full-width rear light bar. Inside, an 8.8-inch driver display sits alongside BYD’s Intelligent Rotating touchscreen (10.1- or 12.8-inch), synthetic-leather trim, ADAS, six airbags, V2L power output, NFC keyless access and adaptive cruise control.
The SEALION 8 marks BYD’s first seven-seat PHEV SUV Down Under, riding a next-generation 5.0 platform and offered in DM-i (Intelligence) and DM-p (Performance) forms. Both use a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (110 kW/220 Nm) plus front-axle electric drive (200 kW/315 Nm), while the DM-p adds a 141 kW/360 Nm motor at the rear for all-wheel drive and 0–100 km/h in 4.9 seconds (8.6 s for DM-i). The SEALION 8’s bold exterior combines sleek LEDs and dramatic lines with a wraparound rear light signature; its cabin offers seven-seat flexibility, premium materials and, on DM-p models, heated/cooled massage seats for rows one and two, all backed by a comprehensive ADAS suite.
Full pricing and specifications will be confirmed closer to each launch.
